Current Editorial Policy
Ashtead Press currently operates a carefully targeted editorial list focused exclusively on our in-house adventure series and established publishing partnerships.
We do not currently accept unsolicited manuscripts, proposals, screenplays, or illustration portfolios.
Any unsolicited manuscripts or materials sent by post or email to Ashtead Press will not be reviewed, acknowledged, or returned. Please do not send manuscript files to our general enquiries inbox.
Our Editorial Scope
When our acquisitions windows are open, Ashtead Press specialises strictly in the following categories.
- Children's Fiction (Ages 8–11). Gripping mystery, high adventure, and detective stories rooted in evocative regional settings across the British Isles.
- Ensemble Casts. Strong, loyal group dynamics where young protagonists solve real-world puzzles through ingenuity, deduction, and courage.
- Modern Classic Tone. Fast-paced storytelling with a timeless, nostalgic atmosphere paired with inclusive, contemporary values.
Advice for Aspiring Children's Authors
If you are seeking publication for your children's fiction manuscript, we strongly recommend seeking representation through a recognised literary agency. Excellent guidance and directories of active children's agents can be found in the following resources.
- The Writers' & Artists' Yearbook (published annually by Bloomsbury)
- The Society of Authors (the UK trade union for writers)
- The Association of Authors' Agents (AAA) directory
